REACH Academy students participated in two spelling bees over the weekend.
On Friday, March 13, our top two spellers in grades 4 and 5 competed at the Midwest Leona Group Spelling Bee in Dearborn, MI. There were 12 schools competing, with 48 students total in grades 4-8. Jo'Niyah and Alexia made it through Round 2, misspelling the words "erode" and "dandelion". Devon made it through Round 3, misspelling the word "tahini". Makayla made it to round 6, where she misspelled the word "doubt". She placed 12 overall. Great job, Team REACH!
On Saturday, March 14, our school champion Angelina competed at the Blade Northwest Ohio Championship at Owens Performing Arts Center. She was our very first 3rd grade champion, having beat out our 4th and 5th graders for the title. She competed on Saturday against 53 students in grades 3-8; most of whom were junior high students! The competition was broadcast live on television for the first time this year, which added to all of the students' nervousness. Angelina misspelled the word "crescent" in the first round. She was so brave to stand up on that stage, surrounded by lights, cameras, and big kids! We are so proud of her, and we look forward to her continued spelling success as she moves into 4th and 5th grade!
